REVIEW FOR UPCOMING TESTS, BIOLOGY 03048, ANATOMY

W. Crone (303 FTZ, 629-7439, cronewil@hvcc.edu, http://www.hvcc.edu/academ/faculty/crone/index.html)

OFFICE HOURS: T 12-1 in Bio Study Center, AMZ 219, T 1-2 in my office, Th 12-1 in my office, F 11-12 in Bio Study Center, AMZ 219, F 12-1 in my office, or by appointment. Semi-permanent meeting times of after lecture on Tuesdays in the lecture hall and Thursdays after 3 PM in the Biology Study Center have also been established.

  1. Third lecture exam is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 9 (Week 11), and covers lecture up through the previous Thursday.
  2. The exam will consist of multiple choice questions, fill-ins, and mini essays. You will have the two hour lecture time slot (2-4 PM) to complete the exam. I will hand it back and briefly review it the following Thursday (I hope, unless something unexpected comes up that Wednesday) (you will hand it back before you leave that day, but are welcome to review it further during office hours).
  3.

While I haven't written the test and so can't be precise, I am anticipating the following question distribution:

30 multiple choice questions @ 2 points each

    60 points

    6 mini essays @ 15 points each

    90 points

    total

    150 points

TOPICS to be covered: see course outline"Test 3." This will be on the anterior abdominal wall, abdominal contents, pelvis and perineum, and histology of abdominal, endocrine, and reproductive organs. The histology will be presented in a fashion similar to the last test: normal vs. abnormal, what is the normal tissue, what are major differences between normal and abnormal, and generally what kinds of processes might be involved? Be prepared to answer these questions at the level presented in the texts. The PA National Boards are very clinically oriented, and so in keeping with that, there will be an emphasis on applied anatomy. I will focus on that material which was at least touched upon in lecture, but I will assume you have gained additional insights supporting lecture material from your review of the texts (Moore and Dalley blue boxes, anyone?) [and even the Grant's Dissector"tidbits"].

  4. Second lab test is Week 10 (NOVEMBER 3, 4, 5), and covers lab up through the previous week. This will cover thoracic contents, anterior abdominal wall, abdominal contents, and pelvis and perineum.

  5. The exam will consist of 30 identifications, with structures pointed out on bone, slide, and cadaver. We will again have the format of open review in the first hour, with subsequent 50 minute periods for testing in each lab. The second group in each day will assist me in putting the cadavers away and cleaning up the morgue.
