A Big Idea: Fast Plants, Heredity, and You (PDF File)

Featuring a classroom research activity: "Is More Food Better?"

This activity addresses the effect of nutrients on growth and reproduction. How much fertilizer (nutrient or plant food) is best for an effective production of a crop of Fast Plants? This is the same question that farmers ask every time they plant a crop. Aligned to the National Science Standards, "Is More Food Better?" involves asking a question, stating an hypothesis, setting up an experimental design, recording real research data, analyzing data, and asking further questions.
